Terrain boards

We use terrain boards, of 60x60cm and 30x30cm size. 60x60 looks very good; the bigger size lets you use the flocking more creatively without making your table look like a chess board. 30x30 is good for greater flexibility, but the bigger size board is definitely preferred. One board makes a DBA table, 6 make a DBM one.

The way we currently make them:

• Make the board, any way you prefer. Size 60x60, height 12mm. MDF is great, laminate wood less so as it has a tendency to bend when wet.
• Raise hills with foamcore smoothened with plaster.
• Add any rocks you want before the plaster is dry.
• Paint green. Leave rocks unpainted.
• Flock base colour, grassy green.
• Flock shadings. Lighter on hills, darker in valleys.

Irregular's scenic items

Most of Irregular's scenery has quite a bit of flash and so requires some cleaning up. Once cleaned up and painted, though, it's good looking, varied and cheap. Here follows pictures of some scenic items we have bought.

• Roman marching camp. Unusual configuration, as 6 DBM baggage elements with palisade. Normally it would form a square fortification with outjutting fortifications for the two entrances, with the tents in the middle. Really good piece.
  
• Trees. Both single ones and groups. I especially like the groups, as they are fast to put out and retrieve, and look good. Another favourite is their large palm (center picture).
  
• Southern European village
   
• Barbarian village. Some round and square huts. A bit plain looking (but they are supposed to be barbarians).

Hovels' scenic items

• Middle Eastern Village. Good looking.

Heroic and Ros' scenic items

H&R's terrain features are cleanly cast. Not much choice, though, and expensive.

• Trees. Nice looking, but not much variety.
  
• Bridge. An OK stone bridge.
